Grade 11 English Language Arts
Students are tasked with creating a Podcast and cover art utilizing Garageband or Audacity and Canva respectively. This project will commence after the approval of book/movie choice, students will have several weeks to complete all aspects of the project. In class students will watch the intro to Fantastic Mr. Fox, we will also read Roald Dahl’s book to spark interest in the contrasts/similarities with the two mediums. For home assignment students will listen to the Book Vs Movie Podcast: Book Vs Movie "Fantastic Mr. Fox" to gain ideas into how to formulate their own podcast.
Students will collaborate in groups of two (based on book/movie or tv series choice) to produce a 15-minute podcast critiquing the book vs movie. Movie/Book choice must be selected from the list provided. Scripts should be written and submitted in Teams prior to production for editing and content. Feedback will be provided to individual groups based on rough draft of scripts and will be returned with revision suggestions. Once completed, students can then proceed with their podcast production. Podcasts should be created, mixed, and edited using Audacity or Garageband. "Cover art" that appropriately represents the podcast should also be included and can be produced using Canva. Completed podcast can be uploaded to Teams. Final drafts of scripts should also be turned in at this time. The purpose of this project is for students to grow in their abilities to work effectively in collaborating with others to create text. Engagement with the writing/media production task; confidence with language and writing as demonstrated through voice, tone, stance, and degree of ownership.
